Andrew Robertson, a Councillor on the Dufferin-Peel Secondary Unit Executive presents a cheque on behalf of the members of DPSU for over $3,000 to Cassandra Robinson, founder of Operation Christmas Cheer at an event to support striking workers of CUPE 4914 Peel Children’s Aid Society. These workers have been on the picket line since September 18, 2016. Operation Christmas Cheer is a registered charity that have been providing food hampers, grocery gift cards and toys for children to union families collecting strike pay during the Christmas holidays. DPSU’s contribution was based on proceeds generated from several member engagement events held over the past year. In addition to the brothers and sisters from CUPE 4914, Operation Christmas Cheer has made deliveries to CUPE library workers in Windsor who have been on strike since June 25th and the 20 members of USW 1005 in Hamilton who have been on strike for 227 weeks. Here’s hoping that they all receive the best Christmas gift of all, a fair and just contract! To that end on the same day that Andrew and Cassandra visited with CUPE 4914, it was announced that a tentative agreement has been reached. Details of the agreement will not be publicly released until a tentative agreement is ratified.
