DPSU President Peter MacDonald and DPSU Teacher Welfare Officer John Hynan joined striking OPSEU members on their picket at the Davis Campus of Sheridan College. OPSEU College Instructors have been on strike since Oct. 14. DPSU donated $2,200 to OPSEU Local 244 to support their goal to achieve a fair and just Collective Agreement.One of the main bargaining goals for OPSEU is to increase the number of permanent faculty members. Currently, the majority of its members live from sessional contract to sessional contract. It is precarious work. Stay strong, brothers and sisters! DPSU will continue to support you!
On Friday, October 20, 2017, the Peel Region Labour Council honoured former DPSU member and current OECTA Past President Ann Hawkins with its Lifetime Achievement Award for Social Justice and Labour Activism. Ann, who recently retired as President of OECTA in June, is a long-time activist for human rights. On hand for the presentation of the award were (from left to right) Peter MacDonald, President DPSU, Ann Hawkins, Ann¹s husband Tim Hawkins, and Jim McDowell, President of the Peel Region Labour Council.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a community service organization dedicated to changing the course of young lives in the Peel region. The donation is part of DPSU’s community outreach program aimed at making positive contributions within our community. Steelhead mascot Sauga (left) and Matthew Appleby, Business Development Manager for the OHL club based in Mississauga were also on hand for the presentation.
