8th Annual Political Action Night

On Monday, June 5, Dufferin-Peel Secondary Unit co-sponsored the 8th Annual PAC Night. Organized by Peel Elementary Teachers Local at Meadowvale Theatre, the event presented a movie night featuring selections from the 2016 Canadian Labour International Film Festival. Each short documentary film focused on worker/labour challenges all over the world. DPSU was very proud to be apart of such an event.

Gonzaga Outreach 2017

In late April, a group of 28 students and five teachers built two homes for very deserving families in the Dominican Republic. Our group was warmly welcomed back to the community of Arroyo Secco, where Gonzaga has now built 10 sturdy, safe and dry homes. Students worked tirelessly alongside the families and local contractors mixing cement, laying concrete blocks, smooth-coating walls and pouring the cement floor. In the short span of a week, students were able to make lasting connections with the families, neighbours and with so many children in the community. As well, each pair of students spent “a day in the life” with a different family where they were able to witness first-hand the direct implications of poverty through sharing daily chores of cooking, cleaning and laundry. The high-light of our trip was the house dedication ceremony where the students handed over the keys to the families wishing them many blessings and renewed hope for the future.
