Dear DPSU member, on behalf of the Unit Executive I would like to welcome you from what I hope was a restful summer holiday. As you begin your school year, the Unit will continue to communicate with you with news that is important to you through our newsletter Soundings, our information pamphlet Info Fax and our Bargaining Bulletins as we enter another challenging round of bargaining. We also wanted to take this opportunity to invite you to attend two social events that we are sponsoring this fall. Please find attached flyers for DPSU’s first annual Slo Pitch Tournament scheduled for Saturday, September 27th at Fred Kline Park in Brampton. We are also excited to announce our inaugural wine tasting tour in the Niagara region scheduled for October 18. More details can be found in the attachments above. Both of these events as well as other initiatives we have planned are an attempt by us to continue to build community within the membership as well as establish community partnerships external to the Unit.
Also we are continuing to support our members’ professional growth through funding that remains unspent from the 2008-2012 Collective Agreement which allocated funds for professional development. For the 2014-2015 the Unit will use the funds to support Conference Funding and the SHARE initiative. For more information on these initiatives members are encouraged to visit the DPSU members only section of the website at www.dpsuoecta.ca These funds are limited and meant that difficult choices had to be made by the Joint PD Committee comprised of representatives of DPSU and DPCDSB. Because of dwindling funds and a decline in the number of members applying, the Joint PD Committee will not be providing subsidies for Additional Qualfications courses for the 2014-2015 School Year. We have communicated repeatedly with members that these funds are finite and only available for a limited time.
We invite you to continue to take advantage of the PD funding opportunities listed above as well as participate in the upcoming social events. We look forward to working with you throughout the year. Together we can build a stronger community.
