The National Day of Mourning is a day to honour and remember the millions of workers whose lives have been impacted by fatality, injury or illness while on the job. On Tuesday, April 28th, 2015, OECTA President Elect Ann Hawkins joined with the PRLC and other dignitaries and unions for a memorial service in honour of these workers. The touching memorial service was followed by a slow-march processional around the Day of Mourning Monument in Brampton, where wreaths were laid in memory of the workers. DPSU supports and encourages workplace safety all year round, and honours and remembers all of the lives lost to workplace-related accidents or illnesses.

The most recent data available, 2013 WSIB Statistical Report, demonstrates an alarming 36 percent increase in traumatic on-the-job fatalities over the past five years, bringing them back up to peak 2004 levels.

Test Mutiny: Tens of Thousands of New York Parents Revolt Against Standardized Exams | Democracy Now!
In an act of mass civil disobedience, tens of thousands of parents in New York state had their children boycott the annual English Language Arts exam this week. At some Long Island and upstate school districts, abstention levels reached 80 percent.
