DPSU presents a donation of $1,020 to Cassandra Robinson, founder/organizer of Operation Christmas Cheer, a registered charity which provides food hampers and Christmas gifts to families of union members currently on strike throughout Ontario.
DPSU raised funds for Operation Christmas Cheer through its inaugural Children’s Christmas Party which was co-sponsored by sister OECTA unit Dufferin-Peel Elementary Unit.
“Christmas is an important time for families to gather. Our Christmas party for children allowed our members to share in the Christmas spirit with each other. Through our members’ donation to Operation Christmas Cheer we wanted to reach out to our brothers and sisters who are sacrificing for their families during a difficult period,” said Peter MacDonald, President of Dufferin-Peel Secondary Unit. “This is a way for us to show our support for them as they seek a fair, collectively- bargained contract.”
DPSU represents 2,300 members teaching in 26 high schools located in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon East.
Founded in 2004, Operation Christmas Cheer has been helping union families with food hampers, toys and gift cards during the Holiday season. The current campaign has raised close to $70,000.
