CELEBRATE HUMAN RIGHTS DAY BY COMMITTING TO UNSEAT HARPER

“Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have led a full-frontal attack on many of the values that have been cornerstones of Canada’s social justice and human rights reputation,” said OFL President Sid Ryan. “By definition and action, the Conservatives have proven themselves to be a barrier to progress, so the 2015 federal election provides an opportunity for Canadians to move that barrier aside.”

INJURED WORKER PROTEST AIRED WSIB DIRTY LAUNDRY

In support of protest organized at the Ministry of Labour by the Ontario Network of Injured Workers’ Groups (ONIWG), the OFL released data demonstrating an alarming 36 percent increase in traumatic on-the-job fatalities over the past five years, bringing them back up to peak 2004 levels. At Monday’s protest, injured workers strung a clothesline in front of the Ministry of Labour to “air the WSIB’s dirty laundry.

“Ontario’s response to workplace safety is upside down,” said Ryan. “Convicted employers are getting rewards when they should be getting jail time; injured workers are living in poverty instead of dignity; and the man in charge is getting bonuses when he should be shown the door.”
